Scholarships
The Provo Elks Lodge # 849 supports the Grand Lodge Most Valuable Scholarship program for college bound high school students. Through the support of the Lodge and the Provo Lodge Benevolent Trust, $50,000 worth of scholarships are awarded each year to deserving students. Children and Grandchildren of dues paying Elks can also apply for the Legacy Award awarded through the Grand Lodge Scholarship program. The Provo Lodge Ladies of Elks also provide a Music Award program each year to deserving high school seniors that compete in a music competition. The Americanism Program also presents awards to winners of our Americanism Essay Contest for 5th through 8th graders.
Veterans
The ELKS are committed to ending veteran homelessness. ELKS Host offer food and other essentials for veterans living in poverty, provide furniture and supplies for veterans exiting homelessness, support veterans’ shelters, and more.
Christmas Charity
The Provo Elks Lodge 849 proudly supports our Christmas Charity program each year. Donations from our members help support this program that creates a Christmas donation for several families in our area each year. After a careful vetting process, the family prepares a list of items that they would like for Christmas and members attend a special "Christmas Charity Shopping Day" at the local Wal-Mart store to purchase the items on the family's wish list. Items are the distributed to the families along with gift cards as needed so that their Christmas is joyous and complete.
Drug Awareness
The ELKS Drug Awareness program provides communities and schools with information such as coloring books and for younger children and educational materials for older youths. Each year, Lodges sponsor drug awareness poster and essay contests. These no-cost programs and free learning materials are available for your community.
Flag Day
Flag day is celebrated by ELKS all across the country. Here in Provo on June 14th we hold a ceremony to honor the flag as well as a ceremony to retire any flags that have been entrusted to us for retirement
Hoop Shoot
The ELKS Hoop Shoot™ is a free throw contest for boys and girls age 8-13. Competition begins in the fall and conclude with the nationals in April. Since its origin in 1946, the ELKS Hoop Shoot™ has grown to include more than 3 million participants annually, making it the largest co-educational sports program in the country
